Job Purpose

  1. To support the Physical & Health Education (PHE) department in delivering outstanding PHE provision through the preparation of equipment, classrooms, and facilities, and supporting the delivery of programmes and supervision of students.
  2. To recognize the Spark of Genius in every child and endeavor to follow the Dwight vision, mission, and pillars in every aspect of the role.

Role and Responsibilities

Lesson planning, teaching, and learning:

  • To support teachers in developing and maintaining teaching resources.
  • To set up off-site PE lessons and Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs) ahead of groups arriving to ensure a smooth transition and maximization of learning time. This includes assisting in the setup of sports fixtures and PHE events hosted by the school.
  • Assisting with the differentiation and personalized learning of designated students.

Facilities and equipment:

  • To manage the cleanliness of Dwight PHE facilities, including the storeroom and safe and organized storage of equipment.
  • To keep a regular stock, take of all equipment and resources.
  • To rotate equipment on a seasonal basis, between short- and long-term storages, to ensure teachers have the correct resources for seasonal sports.

Coaching and supervision of student:

  • To assist teachers in the delivery of the team sports programme, and swimming, including some potential coaching of sports teams.
  • To assist teachers in the supervision of students during PHE lessons and swimming lessons, including offsite PE lessons and ECAs.
  • To assist the Head of PHE with the implementation of safety policies and procedures, including off-site first aid provision.

Other duties and responsibilities:

  • Undertake duties as assigned as part of the staff duty rota.
  • Undertake relevant training and professional development as part of the role.
  • Cover for absent colleagues.
  • Support school events and activities.
  • Consistently demonstrate professionalism and high professional standards.
  • Actively participate in the professional (Dwight) community.
  • Any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Head of Department or Head of School.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a passion for sport.
  • Have a sports coaching qualification.
  • Be a competent swimmer.
  • Have a swimming qualification and / or lifesaving qualification.
